Hip-Hop News: DMX Attacks Officer

Troubled rap star DMX has allegedly assaulted a corrections officer at Arizona’s Tent City Jail which could cost him up to eight additional years behind bars.

The incident reportedly took place while he was in lock down.

DMX, also known as Earl Simmons, may be charged with felony aggravated assault. FOX 10 has learned that while in lock down, Simmons apparently assaulted a Sheriff’s detention officer. If convicted of these new charges, his probation could be revoked and he could be sentenced to 8 years in prison. (Fox News)

X was placed in Arizona Tent City Jail’s lock down after reportedly making verbal threats to corrections officers earlier this month.

He was moved from Tent City to a solitary cell, where he will spend 23 hours a day, following a verbal altercation with Maricopa County Sheriff’s detention officers on Sunday (February 8). The rapper will likely remain for the next month, said Lt. Brian Lee, a sheriff’s spokesman. DMX was serving his 90-day sentence with more than 2,000 other inmates in Tent City until Sunday, when he refused to report for his designated job in the jail. (AZ Central)

The rapper was originally required to serve 90 days in jail on Arizona drug and animal cruelty charges.

Commissioner Phemonia Miller sentenced the rapper, whose name is Earl Simmons to 90 days in jail on January 30 with no credit for time he has already served. (ABC News)

Former Ruff Ryder associates Jadakiss and Styles P recently spoke on his incarceration while attending the NBA All-Star weekend fesitivies in Arizona earlier this month.

“I might just stay here an extra day and go visit the dawg,” Jada said in an interview referring to X. “Put some money on his books…I can visit him, man….That’s my big homie right there.” “You know I can’t visit,”Styles joking said. “I love you dawg, but he know, I can’t do it…Police in there and everybody, leave him alone. He’s just a man at the end of the day like everybody else. If he’s a rapper, that’s just his job. Just treat him like every other man. It’s all love.” (101.5 Jamz)

There has been no word on any charges placed against X for his alleged assault.

Music News: Chrisette Michele Talks New Album!

Def Jam soul singer Chrisette Michele is back one mo’ ‘gin with her sophomore album Epiphany due out March 31. The newly single chanteuse is already back on the charts with a new single and is singing the praises of her labelmate Ne-Yo.

Michele took home her first Grammy this year, capturing the Best Urban/Alternative Performance for “Be OK” off her debut album I Am. Now she’s busy promoting her next project which she titled Epiphany after her first single, which just so happens to have been penned by Ne-Yo.

In a recent interview with Billboard.com Chrisette discusses how hearing the song made gave her a new revelation.

“I heard the song that Ne-Yo had written titled ‘Epiphany,’ and the word just stood out to me,” Michele tells Billboard.com. “It stood out to me because I’d been through a lot in my last relationship, and the word ‘epiphany’ exemplified exactly what happened in the end when I realized I didn’t have to put myself through it anymore.”

It turns out that ish got really real with Michele and her former manager, Douglas “Biggs” Ellison, with Michele even going so far as to sue Ellison for embezzlement and harassment last year. Ellison countersued for breach of exclusive management agreement and the lawsuit is currently in motion. Talk about DRAMA! Still Chrisette is standing strong on her own.

Epiphany has no guest collaborations although Ne-Yo also co-executive produced the project. And it looks like we can expect a video soon for “Epiphany” because Chrisette posted a YouTube video this Sunday showing her arrival on set for the vid shoot.

Randy Jackson, judge on FOX’s “American Idol”, spoke to Black Voices magazine about the controversy surrounding Chris Brown and Rihanna, in Jackson at LAX which the songstress was allegedly the victim of an attack by Chris Brown.

Randy says, “Once again, it’s really, really unfortunate. I saw them together at Clive’s [Davis] party on the night of the incident and just two very young talented people. Hate to see it go down that way.”

He mentions how tough it must be to be living a life in the public eye as a young person. “Every move is documented and the pressures for a young kid, being in this today. Man, I can’t even imagine.”

Just In: Chris Brown Arraignment May Be Postponed?

D.A. Still Waiting for Chris Brown Evidence, Arraignment May Be Postponed…

Chris Brown was a no-show at the Grammys. Now it looks like his next scheduled appearance might be off, too.

An initial arraignment date was set for March 5 following his arrest earlier this month for his altercation with Rihanna. But that court appearance “may not happen,” Los Angeles district attorney spokeswoman Jane Robison tells E! News.

“We don’t have the evidence yet. [Los Angeles police detectives] are still investigating,” says Robison, who doesn’t expect her office to receive the case until at least next week.

“If [detectives] determine they need more time they’ll set a new date for him to come into court,” says Robison.

Once the LAPD finishes its investigation and presents the D.A. with the evidence, Robison says prosecutors must decide whether to file felony charges, reject the charges if the evidence is insufficient, or refer the case to the city attorney’s office if they decide the behavior was simply a misdemeanor violation.

Depending on the decision, Brown may not even have to appear in court. “He only has to come back if and when we file charges,” says Robison.

On Wednesday, an LAPD source also told E! News, “The D.A. is being even more thorough than usual with this case. They don’t want to mess it up.”

Prosecutors ordered the LAPD to seek evidence for a variety of felonies, including domestic violence, assault resulting in great bodily injury and—based on specific allegations made by Rihanna—even attempted murder, a source close to the investigation told E! News.

But as they build their case, the source says, prosecutors fear that making any serious felony charges stick could prove difficult in a case where there are no direct witnesses other than Rihanna and Brown.

Brown was booked on suspicion of making a criminal threat and remains free on bail.

He released a statement on Feb. 15, his only public remarks since the incident, saying, “Words cannot begin to express how sorry and saddened I am over what transpired.”

While he has yet to face any formal charges, Brown has reportedly made a preemptive move to repair his shattered good-guy image.

According to the New York Daily News, the 19-year-old R&B star attended his first session this week in the Los Angeles area.

Should he be charged and convicted, such a course would almost be a certain part of his sentence.

The enrollment is said to have been masterminded by publicist/crisis manager Michael Sitrick, whom Brown hired in the wake of his arrest.

Just In: Chris Brown takes anger management classes

According to the NY Daily News Chris Brown has started to take anger management classes.

A source reveals that the R&B singer has made the decision to take classes.“Chris doesn’t actually have to go by law,” a insider tells us, “but he believes it will make him look better to the public, and he wants to try to get in a few classes before March 5,” his court date.

But insiders are rumbling that Chris shouldn’t be taking the anger management classes alone. “Rihanna is temperamental, too,” says our snitch. “They’re both too hot-headed for their own good.”

Adds another source: “It didn’t help that Rihanna grabbed the keys out of his rented Lamborghini and threw them down the street. She knew it would really infuriate Chris, and it worked.”

Additionally, a source for NY Daily News confirms that Rihanna will be present at the March 5th trial. “She’ll be there – she has to testify,” confirms our snitch, who doesn’t foresee any jail time for Brown. “If Chris is convicted, it would be his first offense. He won’t go to prison.”

Is Rihanna Pregnant?…

We just can’t keep up with the twists and turns of this situation.  According to two tabloids this week, Rihanna was PREGNANT during the altercation with Chris Brown.

According to Star Magazine, Just days before the terrifying incident, [Rihanna] had consulted an ob-gyn after confiding in close friends that she believed she was pregnant.

“Rihanna was afraid to tell Chris about it because she was sure he didn’t want to have a baby,” says a source … [but] on Jan 26, Rihanna, wearing dark sunglasses, a black off-the=shoulder top, black pants and black boots, had a scheduled appointment at the office of Dr. Gregory Ewertz in Cedars-Sinai Medical center.

The National Enquirer has a similar story:

“Oh, my God, I could lose the baby!”, Rihanna has told pals that horrifying thought raced through her mind as her boyfriend Chris Brown brutally beat her – because she thinks she is pregnant…

Rihanna had missed her period and told friend that she thought she was pregnant. But when she told Chris he didn’t want to talk about it and was in sort of denial.”
