Music News: Celebs Speak Out Some More!

♦ Whitney Houston Gives Rihanna Advice…

Whitney Houston has urged Rihanna not to take Chris Brown back.

The legendary singer reportedly warned Rihanna to cut all ties with Chris after the ‘Run It star was arrested for allegedly beating her up.

Whitney – who had a violent relationship with ex-husband Bobby Brown – is believed to have spoken to Rihanna, telling her: “Don’t make the same mistakes I did.”

A source told the National Enquirer magazine: “When Whitney heard what had happened to Rihanna, she was close to tears. Right then she knew she had to contact her and urge her to get out of the relationship while she can. She made it clear that Rihanna should dump Chris.

“Whitney told her, ‘Whenever you let your heart rule your head, you are bound to run into trouble.”

Despite Whitney’s advice, 21-year-old Rihanna has reportedly forgiven Chris and the pair have been in constant contact via phone calls and text messages.

Rapper T.I. is close friends with Rihanna and Chris Brown — and revealed to “Extra” that he wants to see the couple rise above their controversy — and get back to the top of their game.

“I’ve been blessed and fortunate enough to spend time around them and Rihanna is outstanding. She’s the sweetest girl…Chris, he’s a great guy…I can’t speak on the event that took place. I don’t know the details…It’s not my business, but I know through all adversity comes strength and everyone goes through things for a reason. I want to see them both rise above it, move beyond it and get back to being great.”

T.I. — real name Clifford Harris — also admitted that he’s reached out to Rihanna, who he collaborated with on the hit song,Live Your Life.” He says he “made an attempt to contact Rihanna, but understandably, she’s not able to reached.”

Music News: Flo Rida Talk New Album

Flo Rida Talks About Record-Breaking Single ‘Right Round’ and Dead or Alive-sampling hit beats previous record set by Eminem, Dr. Dre and 50 Cent…

Flo Rida’s got another one! The MC jokes about people calling him a one-hit wonder, but with the start he’s gotten with his new single “Right Round,” it doesn’t seem like that’s a problem anymore. His song just beat the record set by 50 Cent, Eminem and Dr. Dre with “Crack a Bottle”“Right Round” for highest debut on the digital-single sales chart. also has the highest digital sales of any single in one week, a record previously held by Flo’s own Grammy-nominated monster, “Low.”

“It’s crazy, because people feel like you get lucky the first time you do something like that. But the second time? You know you’re blessed,” he told MTV News. “I’m humbled enough to say I’m a fan of [50 Cent, Eminem and Dr. Dre]. I’m inspired by those guys. But at the same time, at some point in time you have to do better in some categories, if not every category.”

“Right Round” samples Dead or Alive’s 1985 dance classic “You Spin Me Round (Like a Record),” which Jessica Simpson and Marilyn Manson have also covered. Flo Rida has put his own, er, spin on the song’s lyrics.

“Right Round” is about a young lady, she might be in the strip club and she’s got my head spinning round,” Rida explained. “Or any young lady that I might see walking past me that’s getting my attention. She got it going on! I’m going crazy over her. I might go to the club and make it rain … in the club on her because she got it going on.”

Flo Rida says to look for a mix of party and message records on his new LP, R.O.O.T.S. (Route of Overcoming the Struggle), which is due out on March 31. Ne-Yo and Rick Ross are among the guest stars.

Look for Flo Rida next week in Mixtape Monday. He’ll be performing and explaining records from his latest street CD, Freestyle Kronikles 3 on MTV.

Music News: Flo Rida Topping Charts!

https://i0.wp.com/www.media.wmg-is.com/media/portal/media/cms/images/200709/flo-rida-photo-6-medium_1190657659310.jpg

Flo Rida’s “Right Round” tops the 1 million mark in paid downloads in just its second week of release, which makes it the fastest million-selling download ever. This shaves three weeks off the old record, which was set in November by “Live Your Life” by T.I. featuring Rihanna. “Right Round” debuted last week with sales of 636,000 downloads, by far the biggest one-week total ever. This week, it sold 460,000 downloads, the third highest one-week total ever. In second place: Flo Rida’s previous smash “Low” (featuring T-Pain), which sold 467,000 downloads during Christmas week 2007. Flo Rida doesn’t get one-tenth of the mainstream media exposure of Kanye West or even Lil Wayne, but based on these numbers, I’d say he deserves to have a higher media profile.

The record for fastest-selling download has been broken several times in the past year. “Love In This Club” by Usher featuring Young Jeezy set a record when it topped the 1 million mark in its seventh week in April. It was broken two weeks later when “4 Minutes” by Madonna featuring Justin Timberlake rang the bell in just six weeks. At the rate we’re going, we will soon get to the point that high-demand songs sell 1 million copies in their first week of release. This is the second week in a row that rap or hip-hop artists have held down the top three spots on Hot Digital Songs. “Right Round” holds at #1, “Dead And Gone” by T.I. featuring Justin Timberlake inches up to #2 and “Crack A Bottle” by Eminem, Dr. Dre and 50 Cent dips to #3.

Just In: Rihanna is in Mexico!

The New York Daily News has exclusive pics of Rihanna coming out of seclusion and soaking up the sun in Mexico:

After multiple reports of Rihanna being in hiding, appearing recently for her 21st birthday in L.A. and possibly being pregnant at the time of an alleged assault by boyfriend and singer Chris Brown, the singer now has appeared under the Mexico sun all glazed and oiled wearing a bikini and looking quite beautiful in the Mexican town of Punta Mita.

Beaten-up beauty Rihanna donned a bikini and soaked up some Mexican sun a day after her 21st birthday. The shocking bruises that sources say boyfriend Chris Brown left on the songbird’s face just before the Grammy Awards were not visible in exclusive photographs obtained by the Daily News (see print edition for photos).

Nor was she smiling….

Though Rihanna looked lovely and, as if she just stepped out the pool due to her wet hair and glimmering body, the star had a somewhat sad and depressed look on her face. Her grim expression, so at odds with the balmy setting, hinted at the heartbreak the “Umbrella” singer has endured since her private agony became public knowledge.

Rihanna’s family was furious after a photograph of her battered face was leaked, and the singer was determined to get out of Los Angeles.

Shortly before she split last Thursday, Rihanna released a note to her fans telling them “she remains strong.”

Then, with a couple of close friends, Rihanna decamped for a private beachside villa in Punta Mita.

Meanwhile, reports are circulating that Chris Brown’s March 5th court date may be pushed up due to lack of evidence by investigators and, in other news, the singer has been losing endorsement deals and his songs have been losing rotation on radio stations due to the photo of Rihanna that was leaked by TMZ.

Brown, a 19-year-old R&B singer, was arrested on suspicion of making criminal threats against Rihanna after the Feb. 8 attack. He has since enrolled in anger management classes.

More photos of the singer will reportedly be shown on The Insider tonight who also has exclusive footage of the singer in Mexico as well. Here are some of the photos below.

Hip-Hop News: David Banner Speaks Out!

David Banner: Don’t Hate On Chris Brown…

As a fitting addition to Black History Month, recording artist, actor and philanthropist David Banner, discussed the topic “Black on Black Crime,” at South Carolina State University’s 2nd annual Hip-Hop Symposium on Feb. 16.

Banner, whose real name is Levell Crump, spoke about his experience in the music business, his time in college and the work he is doing to educate African Americans about the hate we spread among each other.

Banner said hip-hop is sick because America is sick. “Most problems that you have in hip-hop can be directly connected with something that is actually going on in society,” he said. “If there is a lot of violence in America, there usually a lot of violence in American music.”

Banner also lamented the treatment of Chris Brown by the media and by black people in general. “Why do we allow young black men to be crucified the way that we do and we do not stand up for each other,” he said.

“The same thing happens in hood, all the rappers are talking about Chris Brown, but they do not stand up when all these kids in the hood are getting murdered every day.”

Eminem, he said, can sing about beating his wife or even do it, and nobody will pull his records of the radio station. He went on to say that rock groups are perpetuating violence every day, but do not face the same consequences. “I remember when they took Ludacris off the Pepsi commercial and replaced him with who…..Ozzy Osbourn, the man who bit the head off a bat and smothered feces all over himself.”

According to press reports, Ludacris lost an endorsement deal with Pepsi in 2002 when The O’Reilly Factor host Bill O’Reilly attacked the soft drink manufacturer for supporting an artist whom O’Reilly described to have socially irresponsible lyrics.

The blame, Banner says, lies with us, the consumers, who support music with violent lyrics. “Do you know why rappers beef?” he said. “Rappers beef, because yall buy it, and yall go on the internet and read it.”

Despite this, Banner, who was the Student Government Association President when he attended Southern University Baton Rouge, definitely considers himself an advocate of hip-hop, and plans to continue with his music career. He also is eager to begin creating his own films.

Banner has released five albums with hits like “Crank It Up” and “Ain’t Got Nothing.” He starred in the 2007 film Black Snake Moan and in the Adult Swim cartoon show “That Crook’d ‘Sipp” in 2007.

Sherman Pyatt, chairperson of the symposium, said the event was organized to bring awareness to a very important social issue in our community. “We hope to encourage our students, faculty, staff and the Orangeburg community to identify problems, search for answers, and discuss these issues in a critical manner.”
