Music News: Chrisette Michele Not Happy With Rick Ross

Chrisette Michele is not happy with a certain Miami reppin’ rapper she’s done some collabos with named Rick Ross. What did he do to upset her you ask? Welllll, Wednesday night at the Soul Train Awards he threw a hissy fit and stormed out because he lost “Best Hip Hop Song” went to Eminem.

Michelle was so put off by Ross’ exit that she felt the need to “denounce” him, and hip-hop in general, on her blog:

If this is the way hip hop is then I denounce it.
This is not about ego. This is about what I can bring to the world. My life is for the people. I live to give.

It’s my desire to bring life and freedom light and love everywhere I go. Upward mobility in the brown skinned community.
Who stands off at an award show because they don’t win? An award is winning at being as “stuck in a category” as possible. Congratulations to all the trophy holders who won at being the most like every one else.

I could have sworn hip hop was on the come up. But apparently rapping is about venting, bashing, chauvinistic pigging, and EGO. Not cool. Don’t LET me start rapping.
They say…I’m ecclectic. I’m underrated. I’m different. Well If I win an award it’s because I paved a way. Every award I’ve won was new in it’s category. You know why? Because I’m amazing at being my damn self.

Grammy – best alternative R&B song Centric award – Soul Approved Etc
Have u even heard of those categories? Nope. But guess what? You ain’t never seen another me. And u never will. No ego here. Why? Because it’s none needed. My award is waking up every morning and CAKING off of what I believe in by the grace of God.

Maybe I’ll call my 4th album “winners : just like every body else” maybe not.
I pray with every song I sing Im singing from the bottom of my heart. If all we want is an award for telling our truths, then we really have no true reason. This isn’t a competition. This is a stage for self expression and I’m grateful for the opportunity to live on it. I’d sing even if nobody sang along.

-from the bottom of my disappointed heart. Hip Hop… Man up. I wanted to be supportive but I can’t understand you. I believed in you… But apparently you’re so high you can’t even see what the world needs

Is all hip hop like that? Absolutely not! But some of it certainly is. Let me spit a few bars. I’m not that kinda hip hop. I rep hip hop too. But not that kinda ego trippin foolery.

Chrisette Michele – the girl on that Aston Martin Music record…

Spread love.

Watch It!: ‘So Kodak’ Commercials

Rihanna, Drake, Trey Songz, and Pitbull star in a new Kodak commercial featuring the new Kodak Easyshare M590. It’s the only digital camera with a share button.

In the ‘So Kodak’ commercial, Rihanna attends a fashion show with friends and commemorates the occasion with photos and videos taken on a Kodak digital camera. Then, saying “Boom!” she clicks the share button, which effortlessly transports the footage via social networking sites like Facebook and YouTube, as well as email.

Rihanna says:

“I am excited to team up with Kodak on this project. I am an avid fan of photography and love taking pictures, so this was a natural fit for me,” said Rihanna. “Being on tour, traveling around the world, I have so many cool moments that I have captured on my camera.”

Download It!: Rihanna ft. Drake – “What’s My Name”

Rihanna and Drake‘s studio hook-up for, “What’s My Name” has arrived for fans’ listening pleasure. Once involved in a brief fling, they get playful again in this track with Drake throwing some lady-loving rhymes and Rihanna baring all he needs to know to be her man.

Check out an excerpt from the track after the jump….

“I heard you good with them soft lips,” Drake raps. “Yeah, you know word of mouth/ The square root of 69 is 8-something/ Right? ‘Cause I’ve been trying to work it out/ Good weed, white wine, I come alive in the nighttime/ OK, away we go/ Only thing we have on is the radio/ Let it play, say you gotta leave, but I know you wanna stay.”

Rihanna responds, “Not everybody knows how to work my body/ Knows how to make me want it/ But boy you stay up on it/ You got that something/ That keeps me so off balance/ Baby, you’re a challenge/ Let’s explore your talents.” She sings more in her next lines, “Hey, boy, I really want to see if you can go downtown with a girl like me/ Hey, boy, I really want to be with you, ’cause you’re just my type.”

Rihanna told BBC Radio 1Xtra’s Max in a recent interview:

“Drake is such a cool guy. He is one of my great friends. We actually just did a song together. It’s going to be on my album. The second song, we did another version with him. We may even shoot a video for it. I went out with him Trey and J Cole recently we had a lot of fun.”

Both the original and remixed versions of “What’s My Name” are recorded for Rihannna‘s November 16 album ‘Loud’. A music video for the original song has been filmed last month in New York, but according to a report on Ryan Seacrest’s blog, she will shoot another video possibly with Drake on October 28 for the revamped track.

“I hope we get to shoot a video for that too,” Drake told MTV News. “I’m really excited about that song.”

Chris Brown Reacts….

The newly-revealed song has been all over the web and apparently has been heard by Chris Brown. Despite his ill-fated romance with her, the male R&B performer praised the collaboration. Chris Brown took it to his Twitter to respond to new single “What’s My Name” by saying;

Rihanna releases ‘Loud’ on November 15th.

Music News: What’s the story behind “I Get Lonely Too”…Drake Explains?!

Drake showed a softer side this week with the release of “I Get Lonely Too,” the first offering from his R&B mixtape ‘It’s Never Enough,’ on which he pays homage to TLC’s 1999 track “FanMail.” Drizzy told Rap-Up.com why he chose to cover the “Crazy, Sexy, Cool” trio.

According to the Young Money rapper, it wasn’t planned—inspiration unexpectedly struck while he was cruising around in Miami. “I was in the car and I had the iPod on shuffle, and I heard T-Boz’s voice come on and I was like, damn, I never noticed the lyrics to this song and how beautiful they were because it was an intro,” he revealed at the “So Kodak” launch event in New York City on Tuesday night.

Once his ears perked up, Drizzy knew it was the perfect way to introduce his melodic collection of tracks. “When I heard it, I was like, man, me and [producer Noah “40” Shebib] could do something with this, and TLC used this as the intro on their album, so I used it as the intro on my mixtape.”

Fans can get a taste of how ‘It’s Never Enough’, due later this year, is taking shape by vibing out to the seductive jam. “It’s track one and it’s a great song,” expressed Drake. “I love the words in it and I love how 40 flipped the beat, so I just decided to put it out and give people an idea of the direction the mixtape was going.”

According to Drake, witnessing friends’ relationships reminds him of what is missing from his life.

“I’m envious of friends of mine that have great committed relationships,” he said in an interview. “When people call home to check on their girl or they say, ‘I’m not going to go out tonight. I’m just going to spend the night with my girl.’ That hits me, man. I just don’t have that…And also, I’m not going to be the one to drag my own name through the dirt, so to be with a different woman every night is a terrible decision…If I can find a connection with somebody that can understand what goes on in this life — and when I say somebody who understands, I don’t mean a girl that understands that I’m going to be with other girls; I mean just a girl that’s supportive and makes it easy to exist and laugh. Laughing is a big thing. Conversation’s got to flow. We got to laugh at the same things.”

Baby,
I could really get to know you
take my time and show you

Take Me,
to another place where I’ll be
face to face, just you and me
with no rules, just like you
I get lonely too ooh ooh

Hip-Hop News: Drake Falls OnStage While Performing

Drake falls onstage and he re-injures his knee. MC tweets after fall, “Getting surgery this week but I’m walking”….

Drake took a chance when he decided to perform on the “America’s Most Wanted” tour with an injured knee, and that chance turned out badly on Friday night, when he had a nasty fall and had to be helped offstage at the Susquehanna Bank Center in Camden, New Jersey.

The up-and-coming rapper/singer tore his ACL several weeks ago and, up until just before the tour — which also features Lil Wayne, Young Jeezy, Soulja Boy and others — began, it was up in the air as to whether he would perform at all at all. However, he decided to take a risk and play a short set, coming onstage for three songs.

In footage of the fall on YouTube, Drake is seen walking past Lil Wayne (with whom he was performing) and suddenly slipping. Within seconds, stagehands help him up and assist the badly limping MC offstage.

Lil Wayne stops the track and jokes with the crowd about needing extra insurance for the tour. He asks the audience to make some noise for Drizzy, and then asks if any ladies in the house can do Drake‘s verse for him.

After his fall, Drake tweeted about the fall.

“We straight,” he wrote. “Just to show that this ACL sh– ain’t a joke. Thanks for the support, and we’ll be back … Young moola.”

“All is well…,” he wrote later. “On the bus laying down… Getting surgery this week but I’m walking. Thank my whole YM family for the help. Lion Hearts!”

His DJ, Future, tweeted about the incident as well.

“When you love what you do, you take risks for the people that love what you do. He took the risk for the fans.”

There was no official word on Drake‘s condition or when he might rejoin the tour, which continues at Jones Beach Theater in Wantagh, New York on Saturday night (August 1), at press time.

Drake talked with MTV News about his injury during the tour’s kickoff last week.

“I didn’t really get any approval from my doctor, but I made a personal decision 48 hours ago that I’d be letting a lot of people down if I didn’t show up and at least show them I’m there for them,” Drake said. “For the last two weeks, I’ve been really going hard, getting all types of acupuncture, trying to bring the swelling down. I’m walking around — no cane. I’ll put a brace on it tomorrow night. No one will probably even know I’m injured…I’m not doing my own set. That’s one thing I have to apologize to my fans about. It’s too much of a risk, if I hit that wrong turn [doing] 30 minutes every night. If I tear my ACL again, the doctors say I might not be able to walk again. I have to be cautious.”
