Wire Talk: Nelly & Ashanti’s Proposal – Not Approved by Mom?

According to Star Magazine, Nelly is ready to propose to his girlfriend of five years, Ashanti. But there’s just one problem: He can’t stand her mother, Tina Douglas!

Tina sticks her nose in everything because she’s also Ashanti’s manager,” a source tells Star. “She’s always pushing Ashanti to make more money, to always look great. It stresses her out, and Nelly doesn’t like that.”

The rapper, 34, has tried to encourage Ashanti, 28, to become more independent, but “Tina has such a strong personality that she’s kind of afraid of her.” Still, if the singer doesn’t put her mom in her place soon, she won’t be getting that rock she’s been hoping for.

“Before he makes her his wife,” adds the source, “Nelly wants to know that Ashanti can make decisions on her own.”

What’s your opinion on this story? Do you think Nelly and Ashanti will make it to the altar?

Tune In: Rihanna For Remake Of ‘The Last Dragon’

rihauc1If RZA had his way, he’d have Rihanna — for his new film. The Wu-Tang Clan kingpin is co-producing a remake of the 1980s fan favorite “The Last Dragon” with Samuel L. Jackson and told MTV News yesterday he’d like the sexy Barbadian songstress to take on the role of video show host/singer Laura Charles. Popular back-in-the-day vamp Vanity originated the role in the 1985 flick, while Taimak tackled the lead character and her romantic interest, Bruce Leroy (a.k.a. Leroy Green).

“That’s the one I’m rooting for,” RZA said of Rihanna. “We’re keeping that same concept of the girl being in the music business.”

RZA explained that several female artists were being looked at for the part, but he thought Rih would be the best choice. He also noted that he and the filmmakers were in the process of finding a new-millennium Bruce Leroy but wouldn’t disclose the identities any of the candidates. (Hey, how about Rihanna’s pal Chris Brown?)

Late actor Julius Carry, who guest-starred on a myriad of TV shows from the “Jeffersons” to “Moonlighting” to “The Unit” during his almost-30-year career, stole the show in the first “Last Dragon” as Sho’nuff, the Shogun of Harlem. The villain’s classic line was “Kiss my Converse!” Sam Jackson has been cast as the hilarious baddy in the remake. (Busta Rhymes played Sho’nuff in his video for 1997’s “Dangerous.”)

“I’m co-producing and I’ll add my martial arts expertise and add my ideas and make a phat film from that cult classic we all loved as kids,” RZA explained. “The first draft of the script is in right now. We definitely should be shooting in ’09.

“We’re gonna make it real classic,” the Shaolin general added. “We’re not gonna take it back to the ’80s. We’re gonna try it a few years ahead. Modern times, but a few steps ahead in the future. We got some crazy ideas, but the main thing is still finding that glow. That’s still the theme of the film, to find that glow in yourself.”

All On The Cover: Jennifer Aniston Covers GQ

Jennifer Aniston is not afraid to show her body, or her feelings for her ex Brad Pitt, in the January 2009 issue of GQ.

Jennifer Aniston is not shy.

Wearing nothing but a necktie in the January issue of GQ magazine, she not only bares her soul about the current state of her relationship with ex-husband Brad Pitt, she bares just about every inch of her body, before she turns the big 4-0.

Aniston is sandwiched between two seemingly naked men. The star of the upcoming movie Marley & Me tells GQ that while the two are hardly best friends, they do still keep in touch. Inside, there’s a candid interview in which Aniston calls her relationship with Angelina Jolie and Pitt an “insane Bermuda Triangle.”

Below are more photos of Jennifer Aniston.

“When there’s something to congratulate or celebrate, there’s an exchange,” she tells the magazine. “But there’s no charge on it.” There is, however, quite a charge in the racy photos Aniston posed for, wearing nothing but a red, white and blue tie, reclining on the ground between two buff boys.

It’s hard to believe the former “Friends” star is 39 years old. The “body” part, at least, is quite apparent.

She jokingly continues: “The funny thing is that people don’t realize we all go away to the Hamptons on the weekends … No. But can you imagine? That’d be hysterical: I’ve got Zahara on my hip, and Knox …” she said, referring to two of Jolie and Pitt’s six — and counting — kids.

But she says she and Pitt do speak from time to time: “When there’s something to congratulate or celebrate, there’s an exchange. But there’s no charge on it.”

More of what she said in the interview:

On looking jaw-dropping at 39: “I feel more comfortable today than I ever did in my 20s or early 30s,” she said. “I’m healthier. I’m more at peace in my mind and with my body.”

On her on-again boyfriend John Mayer: “Honestly, did not know much about him before I met him. I’d heard … you know, uh, ‘Your Body’ – that song. But what I can say is that I had no idea what an extraordinary musician he is. And it’s just great to sit and be witness to that. It’s kind of like, Whoa!”

On the rumors surrounding pregnancy and marriage: “I am not having his baby. And I have not popped the question.”

On Aniston’s current work on the film, “Pumas,” which she calls “sort of a female ‘Wedding Crashers’” about two “aspiring cougars”: “It is so a comment on the sexual double standard, and what’s been ironic is how hard it’s been to get this movie made,” she says. “Studios want it, but they are afraid of Middle America. They’d want to change it; they’re saying, ‘Oh, you can’t do that, people just can’t imagine you …’”

On female movie roles in Hollywood: “Look, I think all women on some level just want to rage against the machine,” she says. “There are too many movies out there that don’t empower women, movies in which their only way of being happy is finding a man. And you know, that’s not my favorite theme.”

The January issue of GQ hits newsstands December 23. Excerpts of the cover story appeared in the New York Post, People.com, JustJared.com and wowowow.com.

Aniston isn’t the only piece of the “Bermuda Triangle” running her mouth. Brad Pitt recently spoke to Rolling Stone. In the interview he says that he and his partner Jolie don’t fight. Pitt says, “I don’t want to waste time being angry at someone I love.”

Designer Spotlight: Common “Softwear”

09_common_lgl

So here’s a fashion collab we never saw coming: Rapper Common has partnered with Microsoft to create a clothing line called Softwear.

Microsoft’s soft launch party for Softwear, the company’s new line of graphic tees designed by hip-hop artist Common and “inspired by the 1980s when both Microsoft and hip-hop really came of age.” The software giant’s foray into fashion is intended to conjure a sense of nostalgic hipness around the brand, while reacting to the “I’m a PC” stereotype made popular by Apple. The shirts (which hit select stores in the US on Dec 15) incorporate old DOS iconography, geek vernacular, and a retro-futuristic aesthetic into some surprisingly stylish designs. Softwear’s two lines – Classic and Common’s designs – can be previewed at Microsoft’s Softwear site where viewers can also learn about the impetus and story behind the concept, narrated by Common.

In the words of Common, shirts that make you go, “Man, this is incredible artwork and I want to wear this and I want it to reflect beauty, creativity and humanity…look fly but say something, too. So some of the shirts got messages, some of it bring…all of it got a purpose.”

The t-shirts are expected to retail for around $32 a pop.
