Dear Diary: Special Thoughts on Bruno Mars

Bruno Mars is not the first artist to be caught with cocaine – or “booger sugar” as TMZ refers to it – and he damn sure won’t be the last. Buddy may not even be the last artist to get caught with it this year if Paris Hilton or Lindsay Lohan have any say. I just hope Bruno, and anybody else out there doing nose candy, somehow manage to keep their lives in tact to the point they’re not on E! True Hollywood Stories in five years. If that show still even comes on.

Regardless, this guy has been one of the freshest additions in the music industry in a good while and a personal favorite since I was put on towards the beginning of this year. I’ve yet to really speak on the song, but “Just The Way You Are” has one of those timeless feels to it. It’s a record not exclusive to any generation and one any age bracket can find the silver lining in. Truth is, pop records tend to have a long shelf life. It will probably still end up getting played at proms next spring and if you can convince your grandparents to give it a listen they may even crack a smile in approval.

Nah, I’m not calling it a “classic” at the moment, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s played at weddings and in movies for years to come. Labeling the record a Valentine’s Day anthem isn’t too far fetched either. Mars just makes great crossover music. His album ‘Doo-Wops & Hooligans’ is set to be released on October 5 and I fully expect it to be one of the years’ best come December 31, 2010. And if it is, those coke charges…well, what coke charges?

Check out the video below from his song, “Just The Way You Are”….

Watch It!: Katy Perry to perform on “Saturday Night Live”

“Saturday Night Live” will welcome back a former cast regular as host of its season premiere and has confirmed the hiring of four new featured players in its cast.

“Parks and Recreation” star Amy Poehler will host the Sept. 25 premiere. She was a member of the cast for eight years and has made several return appearances since leaving for “Parks and Rec,” but the premiere will be her first turn as host of the show.

The musical guest will be Katy Perry, who’s making her “SNL” debut. We’re also sort of hoping her fiance, Russell Brand, might make a cameo.

NBC has also confirmed the previously reported additions of four new featured players to the cast: Vanessa Bayer, Paul Brittain, Taran Killam and Jay Pharoah. They represent the biggest infusion of new cast members to the show since 2001, when Poehler and Seth Meyers were among the newcomers.

“SNL” will also air new shows on Oct. 2 and Oct. 9. “Breaking Bad” star Bryan Cranston has said he’s hosting the Oct. 2 episode, but NBC hasn’t officially named the hosts for those weeks. There were also talks that Lindsay Lohan will host “SNL” as well.

Historically, Lohan has been on “SNL” twice before. Once in May 2004 and another in April 2006 when she also poked fun at her bad behavior in a skit.

Lohan, who will complete her rehab stint in early November if everything goes smoothly, is also being pursued by TV Shows for her first post-jail interview. NBC’s “Today” reportedly is the frontrunner although her mother Dina Lohan said that “no final decision has been made”.

“SNL” spokeswoman refused to confirm whether Lohan is a lock, saying “We never comment on upcoming hosts until they’re announced.”

“SNL” repeated the Betty White episode this weekend with musical guest Jay-Z. White won an Emmy for her splendid work on that episode.

Watch It!: Make sure you tune in to watch “Saturday Night Live” on Saturday, Sept. 25th @ 11:30 p.m. on NBC

Lindsay Lohan to Play Porn Star Linda Lovelace in New Film

Lindsay Lohan has landed the lead role in a movie based on the life of 1970s porn star Linda Lovelace.

The 24-year-old, controversial star who recently posted a Twitpic of herself holding a gun to her own face, will play Lovelace. Lovelace is a porn star who shot to fame with the landmark 1972 porno movie, “Deep Throat.”

I would say it’s probably one of the most challenging roles any actor could play — and not because of the sexual content, necessarily — but more because she was so battered and beat up emotionally, that I think it’s gonna take everything Lindsay has to really be able to pull it off,”  Producer Wali Razaqi stated to the Los Angeles Times while speaking of the role Lindsay will play in his upcoming movie, “Inferno.”

Not that Lindsay’s life is similar in any way — but she’s been through a lot of ups and downs. A lot of times you’re loved and then you’re hated, and I think she can relate to those emotions and feelings.” He said.

Lindsay Lohan as Marylin Monroe for Spanish Vogue August 2009…

Vogue is always hot and when it comes to summer Vogue is always promises a number of surprises. As to me there is the only one interesting Vogue August 2009 cover that presents one of the most exciting photoshoots of this month. I am talking about Lindsay Lohan as Marilyn Monroe for Spanish Vogue. These shots can be named everything but boring!

From reenacting Marilyn Monroe’s 1962 nude photo shoot for New York Magazine to inking herself with a famous Monroe quote, it’s no secret that Lindsay Lohan idolizes the iconic blonde bombshell. And she’s at it again! The starlet recently channeled Marilyn Monroe for a Spanish Vogue pictorial shot by photographer Alix Malka in the Hollywood Hills to run in the magazine’s August issue.

Andy LeCompte, who styled Lohan’s blonde wig for the shoot, told PEOPLE at the time, “Putting on a character is very inspiring for her. She loved it. She was putting on such a character. She’s always game to experiment with that.”

Lindsay Lohan Sparkles in Photoshoot with Stolen Diamonds…

Lindsay Lohan graces the cover of UK ELLE magazine’s September 2009 issue. The photo shoot took place in London and received a huge amount of media attention when it was discovered that some of the designer jewels from the shoot went missing.

Lindsay is looking sexy in this photosession for Elle. However, her sexuality doesn’t bedazzled the thieves and they managed to steal the Dior diamond jewelery. The only gems left for Lindsay were a couple of bracelets.

It sounds amazing and unbelievable, but police is still investigating the case. Elle magazine has no intention of blaming Lohan for this theft. Lindsay in her turn is furious since she is fed up of being a scapegoat.

The magazine hits newsstands in Britain on Wednesday and in addition to photos, carries a story about the chaotic few days that it took to get the shoot and story completed.

So they say….Lohan IS known to be high maintenance. The ELLE design team gave her high praise for her work on the project.

Gracing Pages: Glamour Magazine Honors American Icons

Paula Patton as Billie Holiday

Paula Patton as Billie Holiday

As an aspiring singer, Holiday suffered sexual abuse, struggled with a drug habit and encountered racism everywhere. But the late Lady Day—one of the first African American women to sing with an all-white orchestra—translated all of that pain into some of the most achingly personal songs ever recorded. (Download “Strange Fruit,” which she sang at her 1948 Carnegie Hall concert, and listen for yourself.)

“You can imagine that women at home hearing her songs on the radio felt her vocalizing their emotions and their struggles.”—Paula Patton, 33, of the upcoming drama Push, wearing Holiday’s trademark gardenia in her hair

Chanel Iman as Althea Gibson

Chanel Iman as Althea Gibson

After years of playing segregated tennis, the late Althea Gibson tore down the color barrier of competition in 1950, when, at age 23, she became the first African American to compete in major U.S. championships—and, in 1957, the first to win Wimbledon. In her crisp whites, “the Jackie Robinson of tennis,” as she was known, won 11 major titles.

“She showed women…you can be sweaty, be gorgeous and do a great job.”—Chanel Iman, 19, cohost of MTV’s House of Style.

America Ferrera as Dolores Huerta

America Ferrera as Dolores Huerta

A fierce advocate for migrant farmers, Huerta cofounded, with César Chávez, what became the United Farm Workers of America. In 1975 she played a critical role in enacting policies that allowed workers to bargain for better wages and conditions. Today, at age 79, Huerta continues to be active—last year she campaigned for Hillary Clinton’s presidential run.

“She saw her own opinion and voice as [something as] powerful as any man’s.”—America Ferrera, 25, of ABC’s Ugly Betty, holding a sign that reads “strike” in Spanish

Lindsay Lohan as Madonna

Lindsay Lohan as Madonna

In 1984 Madonna told American Bandstand host Dick Clark that her dream was to “rule the world.” Months later she was on her way—her album Like a Virgin skyrocketed to number one on the Billboard charts. She’s been a pop-culture powerhouse ever since, and last year, Sticky & Sweet was the highest-grossing tour by a solo artist ever.

“When I was little, every day after school I would come home and put in her The Immaculate Collection disc and karaoke to it around the whole house.”—Lindsay Lohan, 22, of the upcoming film Labor Pains, re-creating Madonna’s 1984 MTV Video Music Awards performance of “Like a Virgin”

Alicia Keys as First Lady Michelle Obama

Alicia Keys as First Lady Michelle Obama

Not only is Obama the first African American filling the position, but she’s already making best-dressed headlines for a style that ranges from couture to J.Crew. Raised in Chicago, Obama, 45, powered on to Princeton and Harvard Law School before beginning a career during which she met, mentored and married our current President. Hail to our newest smart, opinionated, chic First Lady!

“She has worked hard for everything she’s accomplished, and done so with grace and humility. So many women and girls can identify with her story.”—Alicia Keys, 28, whose most recent album is As I Am.

Just In: Gayle King Rejects Chris Brown’s Apology

Gayle King said she wasn’t moved by Chris Brown apology, in which he said Sunday he is “saddened … over what transpired” with girlfriend Rihanna .

“I can’t think of anything that makes me support anything that Chris Brown is saying at this time,”King tells Extra. “And my heart just aches for Rihanna.”

Usmagazine.com spoke to other stars over the weekend about Brown, 19, who said in his statement that he is “seeking the counseling of my pastor, my mother and other loved ones” after allegedly attacking his girlfriend in Los Angeles Feb. 8.

Here’s what the celebs had to say:

CARRIE UNDERWOOD
“I don’t think anybody actually knows what happened. I have no advice because, thank goodness, I’ve never been in any kind of abusive situation. You hear a new one every five minutes, and some of them are getting kind of ridiculous. I really hope everyone will lay off and just let everybody who’s involved figure out everything first.”

JAY-Z
“This is a real situation. You have to have compassion for others. Just imagine it being your sister or mom and then think about how we should talk about that. I just think we should all support her. She’s going through a tough time. You have to realize she’s a young girl, as well. She’s very young.”

KELLIE PICKLER
“I think the world would be a better place if people worried more about what they needed to do to be better people, than … judging others on what kind of people they are. I don’t know what really went on with Rihanna and Chris, and I dont think anyone else does, either. The only people who really, truly know are only the two of them, so I am not going to assume or comment. I’m going to mind my own business.”

HEIDI MONTAG
“I don’t know what happened there, but our thoughts and prayers go out to both of them. Its such a crazy situation. I hope everything heals. I don’t know what to say.”

UGLY BETTY’S MARK INDELICATO
“I don’t really know that much about it. I think that doing that to a woman is wrong in any way. It doesn’t matter who did it to you. But, you know, I don’t know that much about it, so I can’t really comment too much on it.”

LINDSAY LOHAN
“I have no comment on that. That’s not my relationship. I have no reason to speak about it. I think they’re both great people.”

LUPE FIASCO
“They are great live and both are good people. It’s a tragedy.”

MOLLY SIMS
“It’s so sad. I don’t think anybody knows the whole truth, but I guess the truth really doesn’t matter when [abuse] is the result. That should never happen, no matter what. And I love his music. That being said, I think [about] Rihanna : No girl, no woman, no mother, no sister, no friend, no one deserves that. Absolutely.”

NIA LONG
“I know both of them well. They’re young, and all we can do is pray for them at this point.”

RUBEN STUDDARD
“I’m still praying for him. Everybody always has something negative to say about everything, and I always try to be positive. They’ve both made wonderful careers for themselves, and I think they will continue to do so for the rest of their lives.”

MARY J. BLIGE
“They’re both young and beautiful people, and that’s it.”

MARK CURRY
“Women, throughout history, have been beaten and prostituted. Even today in movies and music, they’re portrayed as low-grade, so you know, he’s a youngster, and he can correct his ways. It’s just a tragedy – women and abuse.”
