Download It!: Wiz Khalifa – “Cabin Fever”

The recent commercial success of rapper Wiz Khalifa has taken him to new heights in the hip-hip world. His most recent single, “Black and Yellow,” landed him a No.1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 list and has attracted the attention of hip-hop heavyweights like Rick Ross, Snoop Dogg and Juicy J of Three 6 Mafia.

Wiz‘s most recent work, “Cabin Fever”, is a nine track mixtape which features the witty rhymes of Wiz along with up-and-comer Big Sean, Trae Tha Truth and Juicy J. Compared to his older work, “Cabin Fever” is a far cry from his past mixtapes – the production seems to be repetitive, the lyrics are dumbed down and the good ol’ money, cars, clothes montage keeps repeating itself throughout the tape.

Regardless of the slight downfalls of the tape, it serves its purpose as being the prequel to Wiz‘s major label debut, ‘Rolling Papers’, which is scheduled to release on March 29 of Atlantic Records.

“Cabin Fever” starts off with the airy sounding “Phone Numbers” that features the boastful rhymes of Big Sean along with a verse from Trae The Truth. Big Sean effortlessly steals the spotlight on the song and makes it one of the best tracks on the tape. Wiz bounces back on the title track “Cabin Fever”, which has been surfacing around the Internet for about a year now. The eerie feel of the piano driven song sets the pace for the rest of the tape.

The tag team of Wiz and Big Sean shows up again on “GangBang,” – a track that doesn’t really showcase any of Wiz‘s lyrical prowess but makes for a great party record or something to play in the car with a sub-woofer. “WTF” and “Homicide” are other noticeable standouts on the tape and leave the listener yearning for the release of a full-length studio album from Wiz.

Whether it’s because of his absurd amount of tattoos or his widely known Twitter account, after a long stretch of being labeled an underground rapper, Wiz has finally found the formula for commercial success. Even though older fans of his music might argue that his sound is changing and his music won’t ever sound the same again, Wiz provides his fans with what they’ve been waiting for: new music.

Download It!: Joe Budden – ‘Mood Muzik 4: A Turn 4 The Worst (Mixtape)’

Joe Budden‘s Mood Muzik 4: A Turn 4 The Worst arrived a little early. Make sure you support and buy it when it drops here.

Here’s what Chicago Now says about the new mixtape:

“Joe Budden’s Mood Muzik 4: A Turn 4 The Worst has arrived a few days early and it is a full mixtape that, based on my favorable early impressions, is shaping up to be one of the strongest mixtapes of the year. You know Budden is gonna keep it real with some eye-opening and thought-provoking lyricism, which he has displayed on various sanctioned leaks leading up until now. I was immediately drawn to one of the mixtapes few, yet big collabos “Dessert 4 Thought”, which not only features a superb verse from Joey, but also from guest stars Styles P and Pusha T. This is the type of project I really need to unwind and listen to from start to finish with no distractions and I look forward to doing just that this weekend. Like I said, from the tracks previously released and some new ones I have begun to sift through, this one is a must-download so don’t hesitate above (shouts 2 UHTN), and check out the ‘making of’ MM4 below.”

Music News: Olivia Opens Up About New Album ‘Show the World’

Former G-Unit singer Olivia has opened up about what she plans to include on her upcoming new album, ‘Show the World’, and who fans can expect to hear as guest features. According to Olivia, the project will feature cuts from Missy Elliot, Ne-Yo, Brian Cox and more.

The album ‘Show The World’ is coming soon; it’s completely done. We’re still working on a date. I got Missy Elliot on there, Ne-Yo, Brian Cox. The album is real sexy but I’m also talking about love, dabbling in a little heartbreak, things of that nature. I believe in approach. I might say things that are a little bit nasty but because I sing so sweet, you can’t really tell [laughs]. But I’m also not saying any outlandish things. I’m just speaking from my heart and saying how I feel. Majority of my music is a true story. It’s usually relateable to either myself, a best friend or someone really close to me, so it’s always gonna be personal.” (Hip Hop N More)

In late December, the singer talked about taking a sexy approach to the album.

“I got a single called ‘Take It Off’ and it was actually leaked,” Olivia explained in an interview, “which was a good thing so it’s been picking up really really good. The album is completely done. The single is basically talking about taking it off, obviously…I keep the studio really really hot so most people who know me know that if you come into the studio with me, you gonna be sweating. So I think that’s where [the concept] came from…I’m a very sensual person, so that’s usually what I write about and that’s where I’m going with it. The album is real sexy but I’m also talking about love, might dabble a little heartbreak, not me of course, stuff like that.” (Vlad TV)

Earlier this year, Olivia hit up SOHH.com to discuss her new mixtape, ‘Under the Radar.

“Probably only three joints are remixes, everything else is original,” Olivia told SOHH. “It’s crazy, it’s crazy. And that’s where you see me with most of my collabs because on the actual album I personally didn’t want any collabs because I felt like every time you saw me, it was with a collaboration. So I just threw them all on the mixtape and the album, you’ll get all me.” (SOHH)

Her underground release features guest appearances by Maino, Drake, Serani and more.

Music News: Raheem DeVaughn’s Free Mixtape

Self-proclaimed R&B hippie Neo-Soul Rock Star, Raheem DeVaughn, released his newest album on Monday (today), The Art of Noise. Taking inspiration from Barack Obama‘s inaugural message of reaching out during tough economic times, DeVaughn‘s mixtape is available free for download [here].

“These are difficult times we are living in and everyone is affected, directly or indirectly,” DeVaughn said in a statement. “We all know someone that has lost a job, a house, or simply struggling just to make ends meet. If we all do a little, no one has to do a lot.”

Although the 15 track mix CD project will be released through his newly launched record label, 368 Music Group, DeVaughn has expressed his belief that the entertainment industry has a responsibility to give something back to the fans.

“This current climate that we live in, affects me too. If my fans lose their jobs and their homes, and can’t put food on the table, they definitely cannot buy my music. They should not have to make that choice. Many of my fans tell me that they love me and I’ve always said that I love them back. This is my way of showing them that love. I want to show love to my fans by giving them the Raheem DeVaughn music that they want.”

Having already released two albums under Jive Records, DeVaughn has been recognized for his smooth, soulful sound, and strong conscious messages, earning him two Grammy nominations and critical acclaim.

The Art of Noise is a prelude to his third album, The Love and War of MasterPeace, due out later this year.
