Music News: Pharrell Launches News Web Site for Teens

Between writing and producing hits for the likes of Madonna, Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake, designing a successful clothing and shoe line and prepping his own band N.E.R.D.‘s disc for this summer, who has time to watch the news? Pharrell Williams, that’s who.

However, the award-collecting rapper doesn’t have his sights focused on his own news intake. Oh, no: He’s producing something very special for young adults by creating Kidult.com, an online venture inspired by his teenage fans to report on politics, technology, health, fashion, science, business, environmental issues, sports, gaming and entertainment news geared just for them. The site’s staff includes a team of young writers doing interviews with celebs and “cool job” professionals including Justin Bieber, Will.I.Am, Miranda Cosgrove and the head costume designer of American Idol!

But there’s more: Political polls are conducted regularly, and users can even listen to President Obama‘s weekly radio address or learn how to pay off credit card debt (even I need that!).

“Kidult is a reliable news source that speaks directly to teenagers,” says Williams. “It also gives them a chance to get involved and speak to other young people about issues they care about. Kidult is the site I wish I had when I was in high school.”

Visit the site at www.Kidult.com for more information.

“People make mistakes—and while I don’t condone what happened that night, you know, what Chris did to her—I remember being young, 19, and at that age it seemed like everything was so over-the-top, and everyone’s so passionate about things at the age.”

He says that he thinks the situation will change their careers in some shape or form….

“I think this whole thing will affect him, and I think it will affect her. With both of them, their fan base is mainly women and kids, so I don’t know what kind of example that leads, but like I said, I wish them all the best.”

According to MTV, Chris Brown And Rihanna’s Reported Reunion Gets Mixed Reaction From Fans…

When news broke over the weekend that Rihanna and Chris Brown had reportedly reunited and were staying at a home owned by Diddy near Miami, it was a shock. The alleged reunion came less than three weeks after the couple’s alleged altercation on the eve of the February 8 Grammy Awards, which resulted in Brown being arrested and booked on suspicion of making criminal threats.

Though spokespeople for the singers did not return MTV News’ requests for comment on the reported reunion, readers who got wind of the news over the weekend had plenty to say, with more than 200 comments flooding the site, expressing a wide range of emotions.
Quite a few were outraged. “Abuse is abuse,” Duaanne wrote on the site. “What are you telling the young kids of the world??? It don’t matter what their names are. He’s a beater. … Pictures don’t lie.”

Some, like Brown14suga, were so outraged they suggested the entire affair was a publicity stunt, calling Rihanna a “fool” for going back to Brown.

KishaA said “we should all back off and the let the couple figure this out on their own, but added, “We should not be surprised if it happens again … or worse.”

MzNique214 again questioned whether this was the right thing to do. “It’s too soon for her to get back with him,” she wrote. “She should just give him and herself enough space to know exactly what went wrong, how to fix it and more time for her to get to know herself.”

Hpfan8795 put it more bluntly: “If she goes back with him, she is an idiot.”

Many questioned Rihanna’s reported decision to give Brown another chance and warned that the cycle of domestic violence is bound to repeat itself.

Gr8Mind4U, however, firmly backed Rihanna’s decision to spend time with Brown again, writing, “If she is being mature enough to work through this with Chris, it is something everyone should support if you are a true fan. They know what has transpired between them, and they have made their choice.”

Others tried to support both singers during a difficult time. “True fans will support and understand her decision,” Luckydiamonds said. “True fans will support and understand his situation.”

A fan named Spmuscle agreed, adding, “Go Rihanna and Chris!! They need to do what is right for them, not for us, ’cause we don’t know. Still people over here are judgmental. We still don’t know what happened, so we can’t say anything.”

Taymorel hoped that the couple could work things out and that Brown, who has spoken in the past about the domestic abuse he allegedly witnessed as a child, will get some counseling and learn how to handle his alleged anger issues. “Couples survive this every day and work things out,” Taymorel wrote. “She can still be a strong woman and be with Chris. She just needs to be sure he is getting help.”

Brown came under some harsh criticism from Highroller33138, who said that after the singer’s press statement about how “sorry and saddened” he was about the alleged incident, “how come he’s riding his jet ski around, having a good time, laughing and flexing his arms like nothing never happened?” referring to pictures that surfaced of Brown cavorting in the waves in Miami over the weekend. Some called for boycotts of Brown, and others said they thought the Miami get-together was a cynical PR plot on Brown’s behalf.

“Chris Brown, you may con your way back into Rihanna’s heart but your career will NOT con your way back into our wallets,” YesWeCan warned. “YOUR CAREER IS FINISHED!”

Kanye West defends Chris Brown…

In the wake of the Chris Brown and Rihanna incident, Kanye West spoke out, saying Rihanna was like the rapper’s “baby sis” and noting he would “do anything and everything to help her in any situation.”

But on Saturday, West joined VH1’s “Storytellers” fold, and came to the defense of Brown.

“Can’t we give Chris a break?” West told the audience. “I know I make mistakes in life.”

During the show, the always-candid West told stories as he introduced several of his songs, including “Heartless” and “Robocop.” But Brown and Rihanna weren’t the only controversial topics he addressed.

When the show aired, producers cut out West’s plea for Brown, but they did leave in his anger against Dr. Jan Adams, the surgeon who performed his mother’s deadly plastic surgery.

“Well I agree with all those who support the couple. I think they should work it out and everyone should move on from this. It’s like Mekhi Phifer says, “People Make Mistakes”. Mistakes are what make you stronger.”

Just In: Gayle King Rejects Chris Brown’s Apology

Gayle King said she wasn’t moved by Chris Brown apology, in which he said Sunday he is “saddened … over what transpired” with girlfriend Rihanna .

“I can’t think of anything that makes me support anything that Chris Brown is saying at this time,”King tells Extra. “And my heart just aches for Rihanna.”

Usmagazine.com spoke to other stars over the weekend about Brown, 19, who said in his statement that he is “seeking the counseling of my pastor, my mother and other loved ones” after allegedly attacking his girlfriend in Los Angeles Feb. 8.

Here’s what the celebs had to say:

CARRIE UNDERWOOD
“I don’t think anybody actually knows what happened. I have no advice because, thank goodness, I’ve never been in any kind of abusive situation. You hear a new one every five minutes, and some of them are getting kind of ridiculous. I really hope everyone will lay off and just let everybody who’s involved figure out everything first.”

JAY-Z
“This is a real situation. You have to have compassion for others. Just imagine it being your sister or mom and then think about how we should talk about that. I just think we should all support her. She’s going through a tough time. You have to realize she’s a young girl, as well. She’s very young.”

KELLIE PICKLER
“I think the world would be a better place if people worried more about what they needed to do to be better people, than … judging others on what kind of people they are. I don’t know what really went on with Rihanna and Chris, and I dont think anyone else does, either. The only people who really, truly know are only the two of them, so I am not going to assume or comment. I’m going to mind my own business.”

HEIDI MONTAG
“I don’t know what happened there, but our thoughts and prayers go out to both of them. Its such a crazy situation. I hope everything heals. I don’t know what to say.”

UGLY BETTY’S MARK INDELICATO
“I don’t really know that much about it. I think that doing that to a woman is wrong in any way. It doesn’t matter who did it to you. But, you know, I don’t know that much about it, so I can’t really comment too much on it.”

LINDSAY LOHAN
“I have no comment on that. That’s not my relationship. I have no reason to speak about it. I think they’re both great people.”

LUPE FIASCO
“They are great live and both are good people. It’s a tragedy.”

MOLLY SIMS
“It’s so sad. I don’t think anybody knows the whole truth, but I guess the truth really doesn’t matter when [abuse] is the result. That should never happen, no matter what. And I love his music. That being said, I think [about] Rihanna : No girl, no woman, no mother, no sister, no friend, no one deserves that. Absolutely.”

NIA LONG
“I know both of them well. They’re young, and all we can do is pray for them at this point.”

RUBEN STUDDARD
“I’m still praying for him. Everybody always has something negative to say about everything, and I always try to be positive. They’ve both made wonderful careers for themselves, and I think they will continue to do so for the rest of their lives.”

MARY J. BLIGE
“They’re both young and beautiful people, and that’s it.”

MARK CURRY
“Women, throughout history, have been beaten and prostituted. Even today in movies and music, they’re portrayed as low-grade, so you know, he’s a youngster, and he can correct his ways. It’s just a tragedy – women and abuse.”
