All On The Cover: Rihanna Covers GQ British Magazine

Rihanna covers the January 2011 issue of GQ British Magazine! In her interview she reveals about how she has grown as a woman, how people may perceive her new image and new album, as well her new feeling of liberation and freedom following her past relationship and break-up.

“Sometimes when you’re on the inside of a relationship like that, you can’t see it clearly for what it is. “I left – it was the best feeling. It was so freeing.”

She admitted to the struggles with past decisions, especially after swearing never to let a man touch her after seeing her mum Monica suffer domestic violence.

She confessed…

“I witnessed it happening to my mum and I said I would never let that happen to me – and then it was happening. “Now, when I look back, it bugs me out that I couldn’t see it for what it was.”

R&B singer Chris Brown, as you may all know attacked Rihanna in his car in Los Angeles on Grammy weekend. He was sentenced to five years probation, a year-long domestic violence program and 180 days of community service.

The singer also added to the subject by responding to a fan’s question about whether the media will stop asking about her past incident:

“Before that, I was just a little girl from the island, singing pop music. It was easy to think I didn’t have a problem in the world. Then all of a sudden, boom! Everybody realises that I do have problems.”

But Rihanna says that dark period is finally behind her, adding:

“It made me strong. It’s a moment in my life I wish would disappear. In my head, it’s gone.”

In an interview for the January edition of style mag GQ, chart- topper Rihanna asked for her fans not to pity her.

“I have too much pride,” she admitted. “I’d never let anyone see me cry. I don’t want you to remember me for that.”

Rihanna, whose latest album ‘Loud’ is No#2 in the UK charts, also thinks her sexy image may annoy people.

She said.. “Girls don’t like to see other girls dressed sexy. I get that. People see my ass out and my boobs out, so it can get a little irritating.”

Rihanna also took to her twitter to say she is fed up with journalists asking her questions about Chris Brown. Check the tweets below.

Just In: Lil Wayne Moved to ‘Solitary Confinement’ at Rikers Island

Lil Wayne is facing the music after being accused of breaking jail rules by having gear for listening to tunes and was relocated Monday into what city jail officials call “punitive segregation” for a month, until his expected November 4th release date at Rikers Island. This punishment—which is the equivalent of ‘solitary confinement’ and requires him to be in his cell 23 hours a day. So he can expect to go solo for the rest of his time behind bars in a gun case.

Correction Department spokesman Stephen Morello said;

“It’s his punishment for stashing a charger and headphones for a digital music player in his cell back in May.”

Wayne generally will now be confined to his new cell 23 hours a day, with such exceptions as visits and showers, instead of being allowed to mingle with other inmates most of the day. He’ll eat in his cell and won’t get to socialize even during his hour a day of recreation, Morello said.

Wayne also will have to forego TV, and he’ll be limited to one phone call a week instead of a chat a day or more, except for calls to his lawyer, Morello said. The lawyer, Stacey Richman, had no immediate comment.

The 28-year-old rapper, one of the genre’s biggest stars, has been held since March in the Rikers Island jail complex. He pleaded guilty in October 2009 to attempted criminal possession of a weapon, admitting he had a loaded semiautomatic gun on his bus in 2007. He got a one-year sentence but is expected to serve eight months because of time off for good behavior, despite the music-player gear episode.

Officials said, “the headphones and charger were found in May, tucked in a potato chip bag in a garbage can in the rapper’s cell”.

The items are considered contraband, as inmates can listen to music only on radios and headphones sold at the jail commissary. Officers said “the music player itself turned up in another inmate’s nearby cell”.

Both men were charged with infractions that weren’t crimes and were subject to a jail disciplinary process, not a court. Information on the other inmate’s punishment wasn’t immediately available Monday.

Lil Wayne’s penalty was within norms for his infraction, Morello said.

“Possession of contraband is serious,” he said, “though not as grave as violent offenses or being caught with a weapon, for example”.

Born Dwayne Carter, Lil Wayne had the best-selling album of 2008 with “Tha Carter III,” which won a Grammy for best rap album.

As he faced incarceration, he told Rolling Stone he planned to keep up the beat behind bars.

“I’ll have an iPod, and I’ll make sure they keep sending me beats,” he told the magazine for a February story.

“Ok now I know he’s locked up for gun charges, but to get solitary confinement for the rest of his jail time over an iPod situation that happened back in May, is ridiculous! I’m sure he’s glad he’ll be out of there soon. Trust he will welcome us all with some great tunes. Nov. 4th is rapidly approaching…let me not jinx it. Good Luck Wayne!!”

Mariah Carey has officially unveiled her festive cover artwork for her upcoming LP ‘Merry Christmas II You‘. The artwork was shot by noted celebrity photographer David LaChapelle. The first single to be lifted from the project will be the Bryan Michael-Cox produced ‘Oh Santa’, and the LP itself will drop in stores on November 2nd, courtesy of Island Def Jam Music Group.

The project features a brand new recording of Mariah’s all-time classic ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’, as well as festive covers such as ‘The First Noel’, ‘Little Drummer Boy’, ‘O Little Town of Bethlehem’ and ‘O Come All Ye Faithful’ just to name the few. Producers Randy Jackson, Jermaine Dupri, James Poyser and Marc Shaiman also worked with the singer on FOUR original new songs for the album.

I don’t know why she’s remaking such a classic and one of my favorite Christmas songs of all time, ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’. This song will never me re-made the way it originally sounds. I hope that for her sake it comes out better if not the same. I can’t wait to start hearing the new tunes all over NYC, while I’m Christmas shopping.

Music News: Nas Confirms on Kelis’ Pregnancy and New Album

While his wife Kelis,  has one in the oven, Nas is cooking up an LP with Damian Marley. Nas is about to be a dad again. It’s official. The masterful MC told MTV on the red carpet of the Grammy Awards that he and wife Kelis are expecting their first child together. The couple will know the baby’s sex in a matter of days.

“Yeah, man, I find out what it’s gonna be next week, so I’m happy,” said the rapper, who has a 15-year-old daughter from a previous relationship. “I got another one coming in ’09, yeah! That’s what’s up!”

Last year, Nas and Kelis showed up to the Grammys walking the red carpet wearing the clothing emblazoned with the N-word, which Nas planned to make the name of his album. You already know about the controversy, the protest, the title change, the #1 chart debut and the critical praise.

A year later, Nas’ Untitled LP was up for Best Rap Album. And even though Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter III wound up winning, we might just see Nas up for another award in 2010. He says he has another project in the cooker. This one will be a joint effort.

“Right now, I’ll tell you first, I’m working on an album with Damian Marley, and we tryin’ to build some schools in Africa with this one, and trying to build empowerment,” he said. “We’re tryin’ to show love and stuff with this album. So, the record’s … all about really the ‘hood and Africa also as well. That’s coming out real soon.”

No release date yet, but the rhyme legend is looking tentatively at this spring.

“Too early to tell the title or anything like that,” he said. “Shout out to my man Jr. Gong, we getting it in right now.”

Nas was a guest at L.A. Reid’s post-Grammy party.
