Album Cover: Kelis unveils new artwork for her single “Scream”

Kelis unveils the official artwork for her latest new single “Scream,” which is lifted from her latest album ‘Flesh Tone.’

On the cover, Kelis bares her internal organs for the rather interesting sci-fi looking artwork. The track will serve as the third official single from the project. I’m not a huge fan of Kelis, but the cover looks pretty Dope!

What are your thoughts about the cover?

Music News: Newcomer Alja Jackson Writes for Beyoncé’s New Album

https://i0.wp.com/www.thisisrnb.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/beyonce-055-768x1023.jpg

Newcomer Alja Jackson has confirmed that she has done some writing for the new Beyoncé album.

“I’m listening to the record I wrote for Beyonce” she says “Oh mane! Sh*t snappin! So Pretty Girl Bad! ‘Bout to have B on dat PGB! She on it!”

More on Alja after the jump….

Alja Jackson is a new, up and coming singer/songwriter/rapper signed to Interscope Records/Geffen Records. She even runs her own label “LEFTFIELD

Alja Jackson has been in this music game for more then 5 years now. She is known for going against the norm, using guerilla tactics & strategies with a new sense of style & flair, with her eclectic musical taste.

“When my mother would drive me around in that old Toyota Corolla, all we had was that broken car radio. It was stuck on one station and that only played pop music. I listened to that a lot and then we got home I listened to R&B and hip-hop. That’s the music I knew I wanted to do when I became an artist. I knew I wanted to be an R&B/soul star”.

What she didn’t know is that pop music would make its influence known when she started writing and shaping her sound. Alja moved to NYC to be in the heartbeat of music and to be where she thought she would find fame and fortune. She sang background vocals for iconic artists like Maxi Priest and Sean Paul. She took meetings with labels, knowing that one day she would be a star. But NYC wasn’t the dream for Alja’ Jackson and than she moved to ATL

“I knew that I had to go home because I just wasn’t feeling the vibe. I knew that ATL was the new hotspot for music, so I moved.” Alja’ was motivated but everyone wasn’t digging her sound. “It’s not that they didn’t like my music. They liked my music, but I didn’t have a sound. Every artist needs to know their own voice, their sound, and I didn’t really have one..You have to take a minute to find out who you really are. A lot of artists don’t want to struggle, but that advice opened every door. I started working with all these producers and artists and it changed everything. Then, one day I was in the studio working with the Pussycat Dolls and the next day, I was in an artist meeting with Jimmy Iovine.” Alja’ slouched in the chair, sure that this was just another “we don’t get you and your style” meeting, but “Jesse Jane,” her vibrant alter ego, knew that this was it. “Jesse Jane” was right.

Interscope Records got it and signed her the next day.

As a songwriter Alja has written songs for Diddy-Dirty Money Trey Songz“Already taken{Co-wrote it with Ester Dean}”, and Sharaya {Missy Elliott’s new artist}-“What is Love”. And she has worked with many big names in the music industry such as producers Mad Scientist, Ike Dirty, Chuck Cha-Loa, MissyElliott, Timbaland and Pharrell Williams. It’s just  been confirmed that the singer will release “I’m the Prettiest Girl”, as the first single off her upcoming debut album. It’s also been confirmed that the single will have an alternate remix that will feature Lil Wayne and Missy. The video is said to be directed by Nicole Ehrlich who also directed Kelis’s video “Acapella”.

You can listen to the single below, with lyrics that go like “I’m Hotter Than Electricity In A Wire”:

Music In Ya Ear!: Rihanna – “Only Girl (In The World)”

Tastefully posing nude in a field somewhere, Rihanna covers herself with a red rose dress for the single cover of “Only Girl (In the World).” Whoever the photographer is, he or she really did a great job and even managed to make Rihanna’s longer red hair look GOOD. Red is a favorite color of ours and it’s just as LOUD as can be.

On “Only Girl (In The World)”, the “Don’t Stop The Music’ to the 9th power” first single from Rihanna‘s forthcoming fifth album “Loud”, the Barbadian pop star opts to leave behind the dark and serious bent of her mostly drab previous album ‘Rated R’ for a return trip to the dance floor.

Twirling about in the strobe-light bedazzled of production unit Stargate‘s delirious trance/ house euphoria, “Girl” sees Rihanna ordering the latest object of her affection to “make me feel like I’m the only girl in the world/ Like I’m the only one that you’ll ever love”, the combination of her open-throat belt of these lines with the backing beat’s dramatically stabbing synth showcasing what can arguably be deemed her strongest pop diva moment yet.

But even in it’s surefire bid at keeping Rihanna’s name at or around the top of the single charts for the next couple of months, the track isn’t the most progressive move she could’ve taken, disappointingly positioning her as only the latest big-named American pop star (following in the lines of Usher, Akon, Christina Aguilera, Kelly Rowland, Kelis, and so many others) to turn to the generic Euro-cheese sound for an easy win.

Acceptable (for now)… I will have to listen to it a few times until it sticks, but if rocking the club crowd is going to be Loud‘s main focus (and not, sadly, the full-on reggae/dancehall – tinged pop detour we were hoping for in the light of “Rude Boy”‘s success), we’re going to expect the rest of the album to have Rihanna seeking some new, dynamic way to be the queen of the Ibiza scene.

The album is expected sometime in November.

Wire Talk: Nas And Kelis – It’s A Divorce?

naskelis
A highly placed source from the “Kelis camp” tells Bossip that Kelis and Nas may be headed towards divorce.

The well placed source exclusively tells Bossip:

“They fight all the time and both of them are mean to each other. I think it’s over this time. They’re splitting up.”

We like Nas and Kelis as a couple, hopefully they can work things out. We are not sure if there is another lady involved.

Music News: Nas Confirms on Kelis’ Pregnancy and New Album

While his wife Kelis,  has one in the oven, Nas is cooking up an LP with Damian Marley. Nas is about to be a dad again. It’s official. The masterful MC told MTV on the red carpet of the Grammy Awards that he and wife Kelis are expecting their first child together. The couple will know the baby’s sex in a matter of days.

“Yeah, man, I find out what it’s gonna be next week, so I’m happy,” said the rapper, who has a 15-year-old daughter from a previous relationship. “I got another one coming in ’09, yeah! That’s what’s up!”

Last year, Nas and Kelis showed up to the Grammys walking the red carpet wearing the clothing emblazoned with the N-word, which Nas planned to make the name of his album. You already know about the controversy, the protest, the title change, the #1 chart debut and the critical praise.

A year later, Nas’ Untitled LP was up for Best Rap Album. And even though Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter III wound up winning, we might just see Nas up for another award in 2010. He says he has another project in the cooker. This one will be a joint effort.

“Right now, I’ll tell you first, I’m working on an album with Damian Marley, and we tryin’ to build some schools in Africa with this one, and trying to build empowerment,” he said. “We’re tryin’ to show love and stuff with this album. So, the record’s … all about really the ‘hood and Africa also as well. That’s coming out real soon.”

No release date yet, but the rhyme legend is looking tentatively at this spring.

“Too early to tell the title or anything like that,” he said. “Shout out to my man Jr. Gong, we getting it in right now.”

Nas was a guest at L.A. Reid’s post-Grammy party.
