Watch It!: Katy Perry to perform on “Saturday Night Live”

“Saturday Night Live” will welcome back a former cast regular as host of its season premiere and has confirmed the hiring of four new featured players in its cast.

“Parks and Recreation” star Amy Poehler will host the Sept. 25 premiere. She was a member of the cast for eight years and has made several return appearances since leaving for “Parks and Rec,” but the premiere will be her first turn as host of the show.

The musical guest will be Katy Perry, who’s making her “SNL” debut. We’re also sort of hoping her fiance, Russell Brand, might make a cameo.

NBC has also confirmed the previously reported additions of four new featured players to the cast: Vanessa Bayer, Paul Brittain, Taran Killam and Jay Pharoah. They represent the biggest infusion of new cast members to the show since 2001, when Poehler and Seth Meyers were among the newcomers.

“SNL” will also air new shows on Oct. 2 and Oct. 9. “Breaking Bad” star Bryan Cranston has said he’s hosting the Oct. 2 episode, but NBC hasn’t officially named the hosts for those weeks. There were also talks that Lindsay Lohan will host “SNL” as well.

Historically, Lohan has been on “SNL” twice before. Once in May 2004 and another in April 2006 when she also poked fun at her bad behavior in a skit.

Lohan, who will complete her rehab stint in early November if everything goes smoothly, is also being pursued by TV Shows for her first post-jail interview. NBC’s “Today” reportedly is the frontrunner although her mother Dina Lohan said that “no final decision has been made”.

“SNL” spokeswoman refused to confirm whether Lohan is a lock, saying “We never comment on upcoming hosts until they’re announced.”

“SNL” repeated the Betty White episode this weekend with musical guest Jay-Z. White won an Emmy for her splendid work on that episode.

Watch It!: Make sure you tune in to watch “Saturday Night Live” on Saturday, Sept. 25th @ 11:30 p.m. on NBC

Tune In: Kelly Rowland Got A New TV Show

Kelly Rowland: Proving To Be ‘Survivor’ and Bouncing Back With New TV Show…

Just two months ago, Kelly Rowland shocked some – but not many – when she announced she would be professionally parting ways with long-time manager Mathew Knowles.

On March 31, 2009 — after the black gossip website Young, Black & Fabulous broke the news that the Destiny’s Child singer was dropped from the legendary Columbia Records — Rowland and the label home she’s been signed to for close to 15 years released a statement saying they amicably agreed to split.

“As a solo artist, I felt the need to explore new directions, new challenges, and new freedoms outside my comfort zone and my friends and family at Columbia have been incredibly understanding about my evolution,” Rowland stated, confirming the rumors.

“Kelly Rowland is one of our finest contemporary artists and a musical force to be reckoned with,” said Rob Stringer, CEO, Columbia/Epic Label Music Group. “It has been a privilege and a pleasure to work with Kelly and we will continue our working relationship with her under the Destiny’s Child moniker. The decision for Kelly to seek other opportunities for her solo career was agreed upon mutually, and any reports to the contrary are false.”

But don’t count her out just yet. In a sharp move — and just when some in the blogosphere were ready to dismiss the 28 -year-old Grammy-winning superstar — she bounced back a few days later announcing a new television gig with Bravo.

Rowland has been tapped to host the new Bravo series ‘The Fashion Show,’ which is set to premiere May 7.

Joining her will be acclaimed designer Issac Mizrahi, who in recent years has fashioned more budget-friendly duds for Target. Senior Vice President of IMG Fashion, Fern Mallis, who presides over Olympus Fashion Week and has appeared on the hit series ‘Project Runway,’ has been chosen to help judge the designs of the 15 professional designers who will compete to have their clothes sold in the retail market and win a $125,000 prize.

As if the new show wasn’t enough to keep Rowland busy, she’s still a huge success in Europe. Nike chose her to appear in one of their commercials abroad, where she’s strutting her stuff and singing her international hit ‘Work’ alongside a runner.

And, in a recent interview for ‘The Fashion Show’ series, Rowland, who cites Alexander McQueen, Ralph Lauren and Roberto Cavalli among her favorite designers, declared she’s that she is still recording and will be working on a new album soon.

No word yet on if she is working on a new major record label deal or if she plans to drop her future releases independently, but either way the woman Beyonce Knowles once referred to as her sister, is standing tall as a real music industry ‘Survivior’ — as the group’s hit song stated.

Tune In: Keeping Up With The Kardashians

Kardashians: Which Sister Wants a Baby?

Kardashian Holiday Card

Kim, Kourtney and Khloe Kardashian say they rented a chimpanzee for a week on the third season of Keeping up with the Kardashians (debuting this Sunday) because mom Kris has babies on the brain. But when asked about it, it’s really Kim who wouldn’t mind giving Octomom a run for her money. “I wouldn’t mind a baby now,” Kim told us this morning. “But I’d want like five.” (Does her boyfriend, Reggie Bush, know about this?)

If their experience with a chimp named Suzy is any indication, the gals might not quite be ready for motherhood. “The chimp was torture,” admits Kim. “That was so much work. It was way more than what we bargained for. We changed diapers, had to feed it, do everything. But we made my mom do most of the diaper changing.” Adds Khloe, “Mom’s been begging for babies lately. She’s really desperate, so we got a chimp to show her what it would be like. You’ll see it on the show.”

What else goes down in season three of E!’s hit series? Here’s what the girls are dishing about in an interview with E!…

Is the drama, the screaming, the fighting and the whining back and better than ever on season three?
Khloe:
Oh yeah. You’re gonna have it this season, honey. This season is crazy from the first episode to the last episode. It’s so different, too. You really have to watch every episode to know what’s going on because something major happens in every episode. I go to jail. I have a PETA campaign. Reggie is more prominent on the show, so we see more of Kim and Reggie’s relationship.
Kim:
Reggie’s usually shyer, but he’s coming around. He’s really reserved and quiet, but he’s opened up a lot.

Are we hearing wedding bells for you and Reggie this season?
Kim:
You definitely won’t see that on the show this season. Would I do a televised wedding? I don’t know. I don’t think my boyfriend would.
Khloe:
If they pay her a couple mil.

You’ve watched the episodes back. What is your biggest cringe moment?
Khloe:
I cussed my mom out in one episode. I can’t believe some of the things I say sometimes. It’s so rude. It’s so weird that I would tell my mom to “suck my balls.”
Kim:
My cringe moments are more catty than that, like when I hate my hair at an interview or something like that.

Kourtney, in the promos for the show we hear you screaming, “I’ll never forgive you” and “I’ll never forget.” What was that all about?
Kourtney:
I said that to my mom. There was drama over my first magazine shoot for 944 magazine. I can’t say more than that. You’ll have to watch.
Kim:
There’s a lot of drama around my new perfume, too. I have my own perfume coming out. We are still coming up with a name. It’s a huge issue in this show of the name that I want to use. I mean, it’s the major issue in the show.

What’s the most shocking thing we’ll see on season three?
Kim: Someone in the family gets some major plastic surgery, and we show it all on camera. I’m being serious. We do. We can’t say who, but it’s not another butt implant. [Laughs.]

Is it your mom or Bruce Jenner?
Kourtney:
Can’t say.

How is poor Bruce Jenner doing? He always seems stressed out.
Khloe:
He is. He’s same ol’ Bruce this season. He’s learning how to keep cotton in his ears so he never has to listen to us. Poor Brucey. He’s amazing. But you might see him break down a little and see him have some bitch fits.

What else do we get to see you ladies do this season?
Kourtney:
I do a spread for Maxim.
Khloe:
More like, she spread for Maxim.
Kourtney:
I think it’s fashionable but sexy. I’m wearing a motorcycle jacket and little booty shorts or skinny jeans and a top.
Khloe:
But definitely still Maxim. We also still have the stores, which have been there before the show and will be there after the show. It’s our foundation. It’s our prime focus. And, for me, I go to New York this season and have my own fashion show there and focus on the Dash brand, trying to expand that and cover every angle with that.
Kim:
You see me perform with the Pussycat Dolls. We’re so known as a trio, but this season you see more of our individual selves coming out, which causes some sibling rivalry, of course, and a little jealousy. There are feuds going on for sure.
Khloe:
This season I have a boyfriend who I break up with. And you see a lot of our brother Rob and [Cheetah Girls singer] Adrienne Bailon together. Kimberly is in la-la-love-land. You know, I hear there is a Kardashian curse going around. It’s not easy dating us because if you date one of us, you date us all, which has to be scary for some guys. But it’s fun for us. You get to see my sister’s interrogating and fighting with my ex-boyfriend, which is really funny.

What’s next for the Kardashian trio?
Kim:
I ultimately think fashion is where we all want to end up. And I just think that there is so much that we have going on, but at the end of the day, this is all fun for us right now, but I want to eventually settle down and have a family.

Tune in tonight and watch, “Keeping up with the Kardashians” @ 10:00pm followed by “Candy Girls” @ 10:30pm on E!.

Tune In: T.I. – Road To Redemption

From Troublemaker to trouble-shooter, as said by the LA Times. The hip-hop artist aims to scare kids straight on MTV’s new reality show ‘Road to Redemption.’ But since he’s facing his own legal issues, is it just a good-guy pose for the courts?

It’s been hard to avoid the music of rapper T.I. over the last year, with his No. 1 hits “Whatever You Like” and “Live Your Life” blaring from nightclubs, iPod headphones and car stereos everywhere.

But starting Tuesday night on MTV, the hip-hop star will try out a new role as a sort of celebrity guardian angel who tries to scare kids straight.

In the reality series “T.I.’s Road to Redemption,” young people who’d usually be described as “at-risk” — troubled backgrounds, limited prospects, bad attitude — get a surprise visit from the rapper, who favors a carrot-and-stick approach to behavior modification.

In the premiere, an Atlanta street hustler with vague aspirations of becoming an actor gets a crash course in “Romeo and Juliet.” But to drive home the point, T.I. also guides him to the basement of a local funeral home, where an attendant has laid out the corpse of another young hood whose luck ran in the opposite direction.

“I think my reputation kind of speaks for itself,” T.I., who goes by the nickname Tip and whose real name is Clifford Joseph Harris Jr., said in Hollywood last week.

Referring to the eight kids chosen for the show, he said, “They know I’m not speaking just from hearsay; I speak from experience. I’ve been through what they’re going through, I’ve done all the things they’re doing. And if they see I can make it to where I am, there surely is a possibility for them to make it to where they want to be.”

If that all sounds a bit noble for TV, let alone for a rap star, your skepticism is excused. Trying to make the world a better place is not something the so-called celebreality TV trend is often accused of; it would be hard to make such an accusation with a straight face when contemplating titles such as “The Simple Life” with Paris Hilton and the truly twisted dating show “Flavor of Love” with the incomparable Flavor Flav.

But the producers behind “Road to Redemption” — who, incidentally, were also behind “Flavor of Love” — say the series is part of a genuine self-reinvention T.I. undertook after a major brush with the law threatened not just his career but his freedom.

In 2007, the rapper was arrested and charged with federal crimes including illegal possession of machine guns and silencers. As a previously convicted felon — his rap sheet includes a series of busts for drug offenses and probation violations — T.I. at one point faced up to 30 years in prison.

His tribulations formed the basis of “Paper Trail,” the current album that has brought him his greatest mainstream success. In many ways, the TV show is intended as an extension of the album’s theme of spiritual rebirth (most clearly heard in his current hit “Dead and Gone” with Justin Timberlake).

T.I. was under house arrest in Atlanta when the producers came to visit him to discuss “Road to Redemption.” MTV’s original idea, the rapper recalled, was “putting cameras in T.I.’s house and watching him while he can’t leave. I wasn’t with that. I didn’t think that was significant enough.”

The creative direction evolved after Michael Hirschorn, a former VH1 programmer who left last year to form the production company Ish Entertainment, came aboard with his producing partner, Stella Stolper.

“We were talking about doing something that was really kind of a ‘Scared Straight!’ show for kids,” Hirschorn said, referring to the 1978 documentary about at-risk kids (personal disclosure: from 2000-01, Hirschorn was my boss at an entertainment-news website). T.I. “was going to go surprise these kids, scare the bejesus out of them and set them straight. And then after Stella and I went to visit him down in Atlanta, I was kind of struck by (the fact that) he’s a deep guy. There’s more to him than you’d think.

“So I think that in our heads the show started seeming a lot bigger and more psychologically interesting. What do you do if you’re at the top of the world but your past keeps dragging you down?”

In fact, that chapter of his story isn’t finished even for T.I. himself, which is what gives the show a perhaps unintentional layer of tension. The rapper is still under the eye of federal authorities, at least until his formal sentencing next month.

He is finishing 1,000 hours of court-ordered community service (the show was not part of the deal, the producers say). The interview for this article was conducted in the star’s trailer, along with the federal agent assigned to accompany him at all times.

Hirschorn said he understands the skepticism — mega-millionaire hip-hop musician hasn’t really changed his bad-boy ways but has merely figured out another canny way to cash in on them.

“He doesn’t need this really,” Hirschorn countered. “He doesn’t need the money. He doesn’t need the headache. He’s really the top artist in the country right now.

“If you think of the traditional rapper pose of being too cool for school, he’s not doing that at all. He’s really putting himself out there emotionally. There were people who told him not to do the show because it would undermine his edge, his credibility, to do what really is a feel-good show about helping kids.”

T.I., who during the interview was as cagey and reserved as his raps are personal and revealing, took a characteristically more direct view of things.

Speaking of the kids he’s trying to save, he declared, “If I can’t get through to them, nobody can.”

Check out, “T.I.’s Road To Redemption,” premiering Tuesday, February 10th at 9pm ET/PT on MTV. Here’s a preview below.
