Hip-Hop News: Drake Falls OnStage While Performing

Drake falls onstage and he re-injures his knee. MC tweets after fall, “Getting surgery this week but I’m walking”….

Drake took a chance when he decided to perform on the “America’s Most Wanted” tour with an injured knee, and that chance turned out badly on Friday night, when he had a nasty fall and had to be helped offstage at the Susquehanna Bank Center in Camden, New Jersey.

The up-and-coming rapper/singer tore his ACL several weeks ago and, up until just before the tour — which also features Lil Wayne, Young Jeezy, Soulja Boy and others — began, it was up in the air as to whether he would perform at all at all. However, he decided to take a risk and play a short set, coming onstage for three songs.

In footage of the fall on YouTube, Drake is seen walking past Lil Wayne (with whom he was performing) and suddenly slipping. Within seconds, stagehands help him up and assist the badly limping MC offstage.

Lil Wayne stops the track and jokes with the crowd about needing extra insurance for the tour. He asks the audience to make some noise for Drizzy, and then asks if any ladies in the house can do Drake‘s verse for him.

After his fall, Drake tweeted about the fall.

“We straight,” he wrote. “Just to show that this ACL sh– ain’t a joke. Thanks for the support, and we’ll be back … Young moola.”

“All is well…,” he wrote later. “On the bus laying down… Getting surgery this week but I’m walking. Thank my whole YM family for the help. Lion Hearts!”

His DJ, Future, tweeted about the incident as well.

“When you love what you do, you take risks for the people that love what you do. He took the risk for the fans.”

There was no official word on Drake‘s condition or when he might rejoin the tour, which continues at Jones Beach Theater in Wantagh, New York on Saturday night (August 1), at press time.

Drake talked with MTV News about his injury during the tour’s kickoff last week.

“I didn’t really get any approval from my doctor, but I made a personal decision 48 hours ago that I’d be letting a lot of people down if I didn’t show up and at least show them I’m there for them,” Drake said. “For the last two weeks, I’ve been really going hard, getting all types of acupuncture, trying to bring the swelling down. I’m walking around — no cane. I’ll put a brace on it tomorrow night. No one will probably even know I’m injured…I’m not doing my own set. That’s one thing I have to apologize to my fans about. It’s too much of a risk, if I hit that wrong turn [doing] 30 minutes every night. If I tear my ACL again, the doctors say I might not be able to walk again. I have to be cautious.”

Just In: Chris Brown is in the studio

Chris Brown has been doing more in Miami than reconciling with Rihanna. He’s been recording.

According to E! News has learned exclusively that, in addition to riding a jet ski daily in the waters behind Diddy‘s manse, where he has been trying to patch things up with his girlfriend following their Grammys eve blowup, Brown has been laying down tracks for a new album.

Brown, 19, has been in Miami for about a week and has been recording late at night at Miami’s famed Hit Factory studio. There has been no sign of Rihanna, 21, at any of the sessions.

Meanwhile, despite reports by People and Extra, Brown was not out partying solo Saturday.

Those outlets were among many that claimed Brown was kicking it up in South Beach with Young Jeezy, Reggie Bush and Khloe Kardashian (sister of Kim Kardashian).

Sources tell E! News that Bush has a friend who bears a resemblance to Brown. Apparently some fellow revelers at the Gansevoort South Hotel mistook the Bush pal for Brown, who was absolutely not in attendance. Neither Bush nor Khloe Kardashian have ever met Brown, our insiders say.

Indeed, speaking to Celebuzz, Kardashian confirms the mistaken identity. “I find it so silly that so many media outlets picked up our story with no truth behind it.”

“YAY!! I can’t wait to hear what Chris Brown is going to come out with on his new album. I’m hoping for a whole lot more love songs.”

Music News: Flo Rida Topping Charts!

https://i0.wp.com/www.media.wmg-is.com/media/portal/media/cms/images/200709/flo-rida-photo-6-medium_1190657659310.jpg

Flo Rida’s “Right Round” tops the 1 million mark in paid downloads in just its second week of release, which makes it the fastest million-selling download ever. This shaves three weeks off the old record, which was set in November by “Live Your Life” by T.I. featuring Rihanna. “Right Round” debuted last week with sales of 636,000 downloads, by far the biggest one-week total ever. This week, it sold 460,000 downloads, the third highest one-week total ever. In second place: Flo Rida’s previous smash “Low” (featuring T-Pain), which sold 467,000 downloads during Christmas week 2007. Flo Rida doesn’t get one-tenth of the mainstream media exposure of Kanye West or even Lil Wayne, but based on these numbers, I’d say he deserves to have a higher media profile.

The record for fastest-selling download has been broken several times in the past year. “Love In This Club” by Usher featuring Young Jeezy set a record when it topped the 1 million mark in its seventh week in April. It was broken two weeks later when “4 Minutes” by Madonna featuring Justin Timberlake rang the bell in just six weeks. At the rate we’re going, we will soon get to the point that high-demand songs sell 1 million copies in their first week of release. This is the second week in a row that rap or hip-hop artists have held down the top three spots on Hot Digital Songs. “Right Round” holds at #1, “Dead And Gone” by T.I. featuring Justin Timberlake inches up to #2 and “Crack A Bottle” by Eminem, Dr. Dre and 50 Cent dips to #3.
